César Chávez: Voice of the Fields
César Chávez grew up in a family of migrant farmworkers who moved across California picking fruits and vegetables. Farmworkers faced harsh working conditions, terrible pay, and long hours in extreme heat without clean drinking water. César believed in nonviolent change, inspired by leaders like Martin Luther King Jr. He organized marches, boycotts of table grapes, and hunger strikes to demand fairness. In 1962, he co-founded the National Farm Workers Association. His brave leadership helped farmworkers earn contracts with better wages, safer working environments, and dignity.
Describe why César Chávez fought for farmworkers and how he created change.
